Education for New Mothers at El Centro Regional Medical Center

Breastfeeding is a challenge new mothers face, and many don't realize that it is a learned skill that doesn’t always come naturally. At El Centro Regional Medical Center, we provide mothers a breastfeeding support group and other resources to pursue breastfeeding goals and strengthen the bond between mother and child.

The Benefits of Breastfeeding

Nursing is a way that a mother and her child can bond, and breastfeeding releases the “bonding” hormone called oxytocin in the mother’s brain. Breastmilk provides ideal nutrition for newborns and infants, and they are better able to digest breastmilk compared with formula. Breastfed infants have lower occurrences of diarrhea, ear infections, and other health concerns. Some of the additional benefits include a lower risk of asthma or allergies later in life.

ECRMC breastfeeding workshops are held in a baby-friendly environment, and the knowledgeable nurses are there to answer questions and provide resources before and after the child arrives.

For more information on the breastfeeding resources provided at ECRMC, call Lizeth Ramirez at 760-370-8526 today.
