After a 40-year career in the healthcare administration industry, David Green, chief executive officer of El Centro Regional Medical Center, announced today that he will retire in July 2014. Green has served as CEO of the hospital since 2003.

Under Green’s leadership ECRMC completed construction of a two-story, 60-bed addition consisting of a state-of the-art Intensive Care Unit, emergency department, and surgical suites, one of which houses the da Vinci Robot. During his tenure the organization’s laboratory underwent an extensive renovation and is now accredited by the College of American Pathologists. Green also oversaw the expansion of ECRMC outpatient services through the acquisition of the Oncology/Hematology of Imperial Valley clinic and the Imperial Valley Wound Healing Center.  His vision of expanding access to care, including laboratory and imaging services, to Imperial Valley residents resulted in a new and expanded ECRMC Outpatient Clinics in El Centro and ECRMC outpatient services were introduced in Calexico with the opening of the Calexico Outpatient Center.

“El Centro Regional Medical Center has been a great place to work for me,” said Green. “I have enjoyed the past 11 years in the Imperial Valley and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this community.” Green went on to say, “ECRMC staff and Board have done a lot of great things to enhance access to healthcare in this community, and we will continue to enhance healthcare services available to the Imperial Valley.”

Green is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and served a number of terms on the California Hospital Association Board and its Executive Committee. Last year he chaired the CHA Rural Hospitals Board. On a regional basis he served the past 10 years on the San Diego and Imperial Counties Hospital Association, including serving as its chairman. Green also represented ECRMC as a member of the American Hospital Association’s Regional Board. His service to the healthcare industry also included a stint as an AHA Governing Council member serving the needs of behavioral health and chemical dependency hospital units, and he was on the Board of the Federation of American Health Systems which focused on national healthcare issues.

Alex Calderon, president of ECRMC Board of Trustees, commented upon hearing about Green’s retirement plans by saying, “David has been a strong leader for ECRMC and on behalf of the Board I extend my sincere appreciation to him for his years of dedicated service to the organization and for his vision to expand access to healthcare services to residents of Imperial Valley.”

During his 40-year career, Green served as Chief Executive Officer at seven Southern California hospitals and was an administrator of five different skilled nursing facilities.  Green will be retiring to Redlands, CA where he will be spending time with family and friends, and will resume his passion in flying as a private pilot.
