EL CENTRO – October 3, 2018 – El Centro Regional Medical Center
(ECRMC) has announced it’s regular reorganization of the Board of Trustees.
The reorganization occurred during the September 25, 2018 board of trustees
meeting. Cheryl Viegas-Walker was named President with Amanda Brooke serving
as Vice President and Oliver Alvarado serving as Secretary. Joe Picazo
Jr. moves to immediate past president. Remaining members are Efrain Silva,
El Centro City Council; Patty Maysent, UC San Diego Health; Christian
Tomaszewki, MD, UC San Diego Health, and honorary member Elias Moukarzel,
MD, Chief of Staff for ECRMC.
Seven of members of the board are appointed by the El Centro City Council
and are made up of representatives from the El Centro City Council, UC
San Diego Health and the El Centro Community Members. The chief of staff
of the Hospital is represented on Board as a non-voting member. The Board
is responsible to set all policy and oversees administration of the Hospital.
Each board member spends countless hours on board committee work, attending
board meetings and training sessions for the benefit of ECRMC and the
community.
President Viegas-Walker has served on the Board of Trustees for 14 years,
from 2000 – 2010 and again in 2014 - Present. This is her third
time serving as president. “I’m very proud of the work we
do at ECRMC and look forward to many more improvements and the ongoing
expansion of our facility to better serve patients and their families,”
said Viegas-Walker.
“Joe has been an outstanding leader and under his direction the board
has accomplished a great deal. I look forward to my role as president
and continuing to serve the hospital and our community,” added Viegas-Walker.
This seasoned board has years of experience with ECRMC. Amanda Brooke began
her tenure on the board in 2011 and is a past president, as is Oliver
Alvarado who also began his tenure in 2011. Immediate Past President Joe
Picazo Jr. has served since 2012 and Efrain Silva has served since 2011.
The two UC San Diego Health representatives – Patty Maysent and
Christian Tomaszewski have both served since the affiliation with UC San
Diego Health Care Network in 2016.
